The East Valley Tribune is staging a debate for the 5th Congressional District candidates next week. The event is open to the public and will feature Democrat incumbent Harry Mitchell and Republican challenger David Schweikert.

The debate was somewhat up in the air because of the uncertainty of whether the House would be in adjournment by then, but it appears that should happen.

Here’s the official announcement:

Hold on to your early ballot, at least until you get a chance to hear from candidates in the 5th Congressional District in a rare face-to-face meeting at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10.

Democrat Harry Mitchell and Republican David Schweikert will take questions from the Tribune Editorial Board during an hourlong forum at the Mesa Country Club, 660 W. Fairview Ave., near Country Club Drive and Brown Road in Mesa. Libertarian candidate Warren Severin also has been invited to attend.

The 5th Congressional District takes in Scottsdale, Tempe, Fountain Hills, Ahwatukee Foothills and west Mesa.

The forum will be open for the public and other media to attend.
