Elias Bermudez (center)Apparently Elias Bermudez missed the memo that states that anyone interested in public policy is expected to demonize anybody and everybody who holds contrary political views.Bermudez is president of Immigrants Without Borders and is one of the leading voices in the local immigration reform movement. He is an outspoken advocate of providing legal status to illegal immigrants already living in the United States, and creating a temporary worker system that would allow foreign nationals to cross the border to obtain jobs here.A few months ago, he told me that building a fence along the U.S.-Mexico border is a waste of money. He said it would be far less expensive for U.S. Border Patrol agents to simply meet illegal immigrants at the line and give them a couple grand apiece to return to Mexico.
