Jon KylU.S. Sen. Jon Kyl is scheduled to join radio talker Hugh Hewitt to discuss the future of immigration reform. The taped program will be broadcast in Phoenix on KKNT 960 AM beginning at 6:20 p.m., today, Friday, July 6. The segment also will be carried on-line at http://www.kknt960.com/index.html.The interview also will be broadcast in Tucson on KVOI 690 AM at 3:20 p.m., today, and will be carried on-line at http://www.kvoi.com/index.php.In recent days, Kyl has been discussing an enforcement-first approach to immigration reform. The benefit to that idea is that Republicans would be able to demonstrate to a doubting public that they are capable of dealing with the border and worthy of trust to follow up with the other aspects of the now failed immigration reform plan. The drawback to an enforcement-first approach is that without the other aspects of the failed immigration plan in play, Republicans have little to bargain with to entice Democrats to join them. And keep in mind that the donkey crowd has control of both the U.S. Senate and House this year.
